@grmpyprogrammer I don't think so, because it's clear where it is coming from. I'd say use of the extract() construct is generally worse.

@philsturgeon Yes, it's what I used to find where there weren't docblocks in the CodeIgniter core classes.

@philsturgeon Perhaps a better alternative would be some type of code updater? But I can see that being problematic as well.

@philsturgeon As dumb as it is, that kind of break will be difficult for keeping existing installs updated.

@philsturgeon Fair enough...but I think a config option for the 'depricated' functionality would be a good idea.
